Emotional Coaching is a known strategy to help young people understand their emotions and therefore begin to self regulate and manage them moving forwards. If a young person is emotionally behind their age, it can make life quite difficult and frustrating for them. By helping young people understand why this is happening and giving them the tools to learn, they can begin to build their own resilience to life.
It was originally developed in the USA by the psychologist John Gottman, and is being used more and more in the UK to build emotional resilience. Thereby nurturing mental health and helping with learning & education.
